All individual ships histories I hold in FoxPro files to better maintenance of incoming updates and various combined selects. This causes some limitations for generated html pages, mainly absence of links to additional info about
Task Forces,
Abbreviations,
Sources and other additional pages. Strict field length in Fox causes some shortening where descriptions are too long.
Originally I had every info written in my native Czech language, remnants of this language can appear from time to time. Please notify me about it.
Description of fields
Ship section
file created - date/time when file was generated from FoxPro, usually indicates last changes in site layout
last update - indicates last new info about ship specifications, statistics, combat history
Shipname - for Allied ships are added hull (USN) or pennant (RN) numbers, which are integral part of shipname. Japanese shipnames are transcribed by my native Czech transcription which is little different from English transcription. The most frequently used are following: letter "Y" we transcribe as "J" (ya > ja, yo > jo; for example Yamato > Jamato etc.), letter "J" we transcribe "Dz" (ju > dzu, ji > dzi; Junyo > Dzunjo). I recieved only one correction from visitors of my site, when frequent I can think about change to English transcription, but now I remain my old good Czech.
Class - links to detailed class info
Laid down, Shipyard - date of keel laiding and building shipyard
Launched - date of launching
Commissioned - date of commissioning
Disabled and Why - date of decommissioning, sold, scrapping, sinking or other case of definitive end of ship
Namesake info about person, animal, geographical location or another thing from which shipname originated.
There is also Czech transcription retained for my Czech visitors
TTD differences from class differences from standard class parameters
Actions section
in this section you can see only actions started or ended between 7th December 1941 and 2nd September 1945 in PTO (Pacific Theatre of Operations - Pacific and Indian Oceans area). Only exception is for informations about ships locations at the start or end of Pacific war whether she was in Pacific or no.
From - start date of action -
in style YY/MM/DD to allow sorting by this fields. Inaccurate or approximate dates are with question mark
Till - end date of action
Operation - abbreviation for operation relative to this action -
details in Operations list
Force - forces, groups and units to which ship was assigned
in USNavy mostly numbered, other Allied and Japanese with various names (mostly different source by source).
If ship was part of some force I didn't describe in her individual history every movement at this period, only start/end date of this assigment, for detailed info look at forces lists.
Source
actions info source - (details in Sources List)
the first number belongs originate source, other numbers belong to sources with additional info about action
(strict date, force etc.)
I didn't saved sources info from the start of my interest about this topic, years ago I have only paper cardfiles, so some actions are without it
Additional info section
